Final Project — On The Web About The Web

Hi everyone! So my final project to my unhappy surprise today is still in the process of being finished, but I guess I’ll be posting it in chunks as it is! I decided to design my own Snapchat filter to send to friends to scan on a QR code and record their responses while using it. Here is the filter:

I wanted to gather a wide array of responses from my friends in the area and complete a video with everyone using the filter I made, and I’m hoping to have my filter be approved by Snapchat by tomorrow (fingers crossed, it was supposed to be yesterday), and post that video before our semester comes to a close. I wanted to make a statement with a filter for a social media app about social media. I think this platform is so incredibly important to our lives today and the advancement of humanity because I have experienced the complexities of having someone be far away and not able to see you regularly except over the occasional social media post. My brother is in the Navy and he gets deployed several times a year and has missed many milestones of his daughter’s young life because of it. Whenever he is anywhere near access to wifi, he is able to see her on Facebook and Instagram posts his wife puts up, and that’s his way of seeing her while gone on a ship. I think that we need to remind ourselves after watching The Social Dilemma that social media is not necessarily our greatest downfall, but something that can truly be a good thing that can bring us all closer together when we feel so far apart.
